Citizens of the United States, and 29 other countries (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom) may enter Taiwan without a visa for a stay of up to 30 days so long as they present a passport valid for at least six months, a confirmed return air ticket or an air (steamer) ticket, and a visa (if required) for the next destination. People who have overstayed an ROC visa in the previous year are not eligible for such visa exemptions.

Visitor Visas

Foreign nationals, who hold ordinary passports or other travel documents and who intend to stay in the ROC for less than six months for the purpose of transit, sightseeing, visiting relatives, tourism, attending a training course, receiving medical treatment or engaging in business or other activities, may apply for visitor visas. Requirements:

1. A valid passport
2. One completed visa application form
3. Two recent photos
4. For all business applicants, a business letter of responsibility (sample) is required, to be typewritten on your company letterhead and addressed to Taipei Economic Cultural Representative Office (TECRO), Visa Section, Washington DC. The letter must explain all of the following:
   - Purpose of travel and duties to be performed
   - Name of reference to be visited in Taiwan
   - Guarantee of financial support for the applicant

Fees and processing time:

• $140 - 2-3 business days processing
• $186 - same day processing

Return mail: please include a self-addressed pre-paid envelope or $18 for FedEx delivery.

Notes:
A Taiwan visitors visa is usually valid for five years from date of issue for multiple entries. Period of stay not to exceed two months each entry.
